New York, NY –  With nothing but a mic and their powerful voices, over 500 of New York City’s hottest teen spoken word poets will rant, rap and recite their OWN ORIGINAL WORK over 10 nights in February/March for an opportunity to compete at the Final Slam on March 1st, for the Urban Word NYC 10th Annual Teen Poetry Slam, becoming one of the five members of the NYC Teen Slam Team who will compete at the 2008 Nationals.  The Final Slam will feature a surprise guest host and special honorees Afrika Bambaataa, MC K~Swift and Tahani Salah, . Def Poets and other more special guests are expected; this is an event not to be missed!!!
The Slam is sponsored by Urban Word NYC, a grassroots, non-profit organization which uses the competitive format of spoken word poetry and creative writing to attract teens into an environment which nurtures youth expression and development.
