On Saturday, November 10th at The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture’s Langston Hughes Auditorim (515 Malcolm X Blvd.) come to the final slam to name the NYC Youth Poet Laureate. See who will rep NYC as poet laureate, win a book deal and library tour!

Shanelle Gabriel is a soulful singer, poet, and an advocate for Lupus Awareness. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, she has toured nationally and internationally, hitting cities from LA to Vancouver to Yola, Nigeria. Shanelle featured on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam and competed in both the National and Individual World Poetry Slam Competitions. Shanelle has shared stages with artists such as Jill Scott, Eric Benet, Talib Kweli, and more. She also narrated the audiobook for Jennifer Hudson’s “I Got This.” Shanelle is the first-ever 2012 Poet-In-Residence for Urban Word NYC.
